The steam locomotives 46.03 and 16.27 are being restored by BDZ!
Dear railway fans,
As you already know, Bulgaria possesses 4 active historic steam locomotives which operate on our unforgettable special train trips. These are the standard gauge locos 01.23, 03.12 and 05.01 and the narrow gauge locomotive 609.76
And now the good news!!!
In the next year the “steam loco flotilla” of Bulgaria will be enriched with another two remarkable steam locomotives, which are now being rebuilt:
• The only twelve-coupled 46.03 – a steam loco, which is one of the largest and most powerful standard gauge tank locomotives in Europe, built in 1931 by the Polish company Cegielski,
• Steam locomotive 16.27, part of the DRB class 42, which belonged to the Lokomotivfabrik Floridsdorf in Vienna (WLF) till 1952, when it was sold to Bulgaria together with another 32 locomotives of the same series.
Herewith I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Mr. Heym – the responsible editor of “Lok Magazin” of GeraMond Verlag Ltd. – for the approval to publish on our website the article of Mr. Alfons Stettner “In den Schluchten des Balkans” / “In the Gorges of the Balkan”!
